Wanlockhead Lead Mine Ghost Hunt
The Ghost Hunt is Afoot!
About the event
In Wanlockhead, the ghost hunt goes underground...
For the first time, Mostly Ghostly will investigate the Museum of Lead Mining, following reports from the Miners’ Library and the museum room housing Jenny Miller’s memorial stone, before heading down into Lochnell Mine, deep beneath the village.
Founded in 1756, the Miners’ Library was only the second subscription library for working people to be established anywhere in the world. Visitors have reported a heavy atmosphere and strong presence among the shelves.
Jenny Miller’s memorial stone has prompted a range of unusual experiences. Around it, visitors have described sudden emotion and a sense of her presence, alongside flickering lights and unexplained changes in temperature.
At Straitsteps, local accounts tell of Old Mary, a former resident whose apparition has reportedly been seen near the cottages since her unexplained disappearance.
We’ll also descend into Lochnell Mine, following the old passages through the hill where generations of miners sought out veins of lead. In 2008, a visitor believed a photograph taken near an old shaft showed the figure of a miner.
Working in small groups, guests will use traditional ghost-hunting methods and take part in vigils. The history and ghostly accounts will be shared in the places connected with them, in the warm, friendly atmosphere our events are known for.
Mostly Ghostly — creators of award-winning ghost and local history events across Dumfries and Galloway since 2008, and experienced paranormal investigators with a passion for uncovering Scotland’s hidden histories and unexplained tales.
A good old-fashioned ghost hunt, in every sense.
