Zemlinsky Trio
The Zemlinsky Trio brings together three acclaimed London based musicians whose shared passion for expressive chamber music and distinctive repertoire shapes the ensemble’s vibrant artistic identity. Known for their refined ensemble playing and imaginative programming, the trio performs across the UK and Europe, presenting both core works and lesser known gems of the piano trio repertoire.
The ensemble has been awarded a grant by Arts Council England for a major new recording project, a year long initiative exploring rarely performed works and expanding the trio’s commitment to championing distinctive musical voices. As part of this project, the Zemlinsky Trio will premiere two new commissions by Rhian Samuel and Steve Elcock, further enriching the contemporary piano trio repertoire and deepening the ensemble’s collaborative ethos.
Clarinettist Peter Cigleris is in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared on BBC Radio Three’s ‘In Tune’ programme talking with Sean Rafferty and on a separate playing live with the Tippett Quartet. He has also performed live for the BBC in the Radio Three lunchtime recital. Peter has worked with Martin Cousins, Mark Bebbington, Julian Lloyd Webber performing for various music clubs and festivals around the UK including, the Windsor and Wooburn Festival, English Music Festival, Carlisle International Music Festival. Peter is a member of ‘Chamber Music Box’ presenting innovative chamber music programmes in London and the surrounding areas.
Internationally Peter has performed at the Groba Festival in Spain, chamber recitals in France, Netherlands and the US. Concerto appearances include Belgium for the ICA ‘ClarinetFest’ where he gave the world premiere of Peter Wishart’s ‘Serenata Concertante eighty-one years after composition. Italy with Weber’s Concertino, Romania and Mexico with Mozart’s sublime concerto K. 622. While in Mexico Peter also gave the Mexican premiere of Malcolm Arnold’s Second Clarinet Concerto. Most recently Peter was invited to perform in Gyor, Hungary for the European Clarinet Festival and gave the US premiere of Susan Spain-Dunk’s Poem Cantilena with the Reno Philharmonic. Peter’s growing reputation among the international clarinet community resulted in Peter being approached to be a co-artistic director of the 2024 ClarinetFest in Dublin, Ireland.
Peter’s interest in the English clarinet repertoire has seen him premier concertos and chamber music by Gipps, Benjamin, Spain-Dunk, Gow, Hartog and others as well as contemporaries such as Vahan Salorian, Gavin Sutherland, Lloyd Moore and Peter Seabourne.
As a solo recording artist Peter has a growing discography. Peter’s most recent release ‘Rediscovered’ on the Cala Signum label has Peter feature as soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales featuring four British clarinet concertos, of which three are world premiere recordings. The disc has been extremely well received by reviewers and listeners alike. Peter has featured on discs for Cala Records, Heritage Records, Toccata Classics and most recently Somm Recordings.
Peter studied at both the Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal College of Music. Whilst at the Conservatoire, Peter won the prestigious John Ireland Chamber music award with a performance of that composer’s Fantasy Sonata. Peter also performed Malcolm Arnold’s Second Clarinet Concerto as part of the composer’s eightieth birthday celebrations. Whilst completing his postgraduate studies at the ‘RCM’ Peter was awarded the Prix de Fossat and was invited to Cahors, France to present a recital for Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark at a private reception.
Renowned for her expressive artistry and commanding stage presence, Evva Mizerska is an award winning cellist celebrated for her versatility as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist. Described by The Strad as a “rising star,” she has appeared at major UK venues including the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room (Queen Elizabeth Hall), St George’s Bristol, Conway Hall, and Fairfield Halls, and at festivals such as Cheltenham, Plymouth, Hexham Abbey, and Chester. Her international engagements have taken her to Austria, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland, performing both duo and trio recitals. As a soloist, she has appeared in concertos by Elgar, Schumann, and Saint Saëns, as well as Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and Duruflé’s Requiem. She has also performed for BBC Radio 3 and Polish Radio.
Born in Poland, Evva graduated from the Frédéric Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, studying with Professors Andrzej Zieliński and Piotr Hausenplas. She continued her training at Trinity College of Music in London with Richard Markson, receiving further artistic guidance from Yonty Solomon, Bernard Greenhouse, Raphael Sommer, and Erling Blöndal Bengtsson. Her awards include First Prize at the Seventh International Leoš Janáček Competition in Brno, the Vivian Joseph Cello Prize, and the Leonard Smith Duo Prize, supported by scholarships and grants from institutions across the UK, Germany, and the USA.
Now based in London, Evva performs widely with pianist Emma Abbate, the Zemlinsky Trio, and the Veles Ensemble — the string trio she co founded.
A passionate advocate for Polish and contemporary music, she has commissioned or premiered works by leading Polish composers, as well as Stephen Dodgson and Piotr Grella Możejko. During her Junior Fellowship at Trinity College of Music, she curated a concert series dedicated to emerging Polish and contemporary voices.
Her recent chamber recording with the Veles Ensemble, featuring premiere works by Egon Wellesz, was selected as a “Pick of the Week” by The Guardian and praised for its “exceptional sensitivity” by BBC Music Magazine. Other releases include the complete cello and piano works of Stephen Dodgson, Krzysztof Meyer, and Algernon Ashton (Vol. 1) — all with Emma Abbate — as well as chamber music by Steve Elcock on Toccata Classics, alongside recordings for Naxos and the Polish label DUX.
Evva’s playing has been acclaimed for its “great expressive range and impressive authority” (The Strad), with International Record Review noting that “Evva Mizerska produces a beautiful sound, no matter what the composer asks of her.” With a deep commitment to musical storytelling and artistic exploration, she continues to bring compelling performances and imaginative collaborations to audiences across the world.
The Neapolitan pianist Emma Abbate enjoys a demanding career as a piano accompanist and chamber musician. Described as “an amazingly talented pianist” by the leading Italian magazine Musica, she has performed in duo recitals for international festivals and concert societies in Austria, Portugal, Italy, Poland and USA, and at many prestigious UK venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, Royal Opera House, St John’s Smith Square, St George’s, Bristol and at the Aldeburgh Festival. She also regularly broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and has recently presented an episode of Inside Music.
Emma is making a series of acclaimed recordings devoted to 20th century Italian vocal chamber music, the latest of which is the world-première Franco Alfano: Songs with the leading Italian soprano Anna Pirozzi. Previously, Emma has released Sera d’inverno: Songs by Ildebrando Pizzetti with mezzo-soprano Hanna Hipp, and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco: Shakespeare Sonnets with bass-baritone Ashley Riches. A keen advocate of contemporary music, Emma has also released two discs devoted to works by Stephen Dodgson that include his piano quintets with the Tippett Quartet. Other world-première recordings include works for cello and piano by Algernon Ashton and Krzysztof Meyer with Evva Mizerska.
Emma also cultivates an active interest in historical keyboards, and has performed and recorded on a range of original instruments for the Finchcocks Charity and at Hatchlands Park and the Russell Collection. Together with Julian Perkins, she has recorded the complete keyboard duets by Mozart and Weber on original Viennese fortepianos. Julian and Emma’s latest duet release, entitled Summer Dreams, brings together the complete works for piano duet by three major American composers: Edward MacDowell, Amy Beach and Samuel Barber. Previously, they had released Tournament for Twenty Fingers, featuring piano duets by British composers from the twentieth century: the disc has received 5 star reviews on BBC Music Magazine and has been chosen by Scala Radio as Album of the Weekend.
Based in London, Emma is a regular coach at the Royal Opera House, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Verbier Festival Academy. She is passionate about inspiring the next generation of singers and collaborative pianists to explore the rich soundscape of 20th-century Italian art song. Emma has been elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of her ‘significant contribution’ thus far to the music profession.
