The highs and lows of British Interior Design 1880-1980
About the event
The June Lecture from the Arts Society of Dumfries and Galloway (TASDAG) puts a spotlight on home interiors and design, and how they have changed over the past 100 years or so. From the over-furnished Victorian home with its frills and furbelows, to the pared-back minimalism of more recent times.
This fascinating subject will strike a chord with everyone interested in how external factors have influenced home décor and design through the ages. Major developments, like the invention of electricity and central heating, and the impact of mass-communication, brought changing social conventions which continue to shape interior design and ultimately, the enjoyment we get from where we live.
Our Guest Lecturer is Matthew Williams, who holds degrees from the Universities of Nottingham and Manchester and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Matthew was also Curator of Cardiff Castle for nearly 30 years. He is a long-standing member of The Arts Society where he is an accredited Lecturer since 2001.
The monthly TASDAG Lectures take place on the second Tuesday of the month, and the Interior Design event is on June 10th at 11.00am in the Gilchrist Room, Easterbrook Hall, The Crichton, DG1 4TA.
