5Rhythms with Rachel Kurtz
About the event
About 5Rhythms:
5Rhythms is a conscious dance practice developed by Gabrielle Roth to help liberate your inner dancer. There are no steps to learn and no right or wrong ways to move. The music can be eclectic, drawing on multiple genres and cultures to support a group process.
It can be many things at the same time – a fun workout, chat-free social time, or a deep spiritual practice. On any level it can be profoundly transformative, helping shift your mood, energy and perspective.
Often described as a moving meditation, 5Rhythms supports you to pause your thinking mind and connect with how you feel then allow your body to do the rest.
The rhythms are: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness.
About Rachel:
In December we will be led by Rachel Kurtz who is traveling all the way from Durham to offer us this class.
Rachel led our our first 2 classes back in 2024 when we first started this group and we are very happy to welcome her back.
A lifelong dancer and mother of two, Rachel trained with Gabrielle Roth in 2000 - 2001 and remained apprenticed to her until she died in 2012. She is also co-founder of the Bare Toed Dance Company - specialists in creative movement play and aerial dance. She is currently completing an ESRC funded PhD in embodied learning at Durham University.
Rachel holds space with care and attention to invite a sense of safety and permission. She is also inspired by the Open Floor curriculum which she has been studying since 2019.
