5Rhythms in Castle Douglas

About 5Rhythms
5Rhythms is a conscious dance practice developed by Gabrielle Roth to help liberate your inner dancer. There are no steps to learn and no right or wrong ways to move. The music can be eclectic, drawing on multiple genres and cultures to support a group process.

It can be many things at the same time – a fun workout, chat-free social time, or a deep spiritual practice. On any level it can be profoundly transformative, helping shift your mood, energy and perspective.

Often described as a moving meditation, 5Rhythms supports you to pause your thinking mind and connect with how you feel then allow your body to do the rest.

The rhythms are: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness.

From Laila:

About me, Laila Wodtke Nissen:
I am a danish 5Rhythms teacher, who trained with Gabrielle Roth in 2007-08 after 10 years of intensely dancing the Rhythms in Denmark and the rest of the world. I bring a grounded embodied presence and aliveness to the dancefloor and hold a safe space, where permission, humor and depth are some major flavours in my work.

As a trained physiotherapist and psychotherapist I have a thorough understanding of the body and our psyche and have offered the 5Rhythms to vulnerable groups like cancer-survivors and women who were sexually abused at an early age. I know the 5Rhythms to be a strong medicine.

I am visiting Scotland for the Easter holidays with a friend I met when I attended a private boarding school outside of Castle Douglas when I was 16. Coming back to the area and offering my work is a wonderful way to acknowledge and give thanks to the great impact my year in Galloway had on my life.
I am excited to meet you all on the dancefloor.

You can find me on https://www.5rhythms.com/teachers/Laila+Wodtke+Nissen
